Ramy Ali Launches Interactive Timeline of Syria’s 25 Presidents

Dubai-based senior product designer Ramy Ali has created an interactive website exploring Syria’s presidential history through a visual timeline and collage-based design.

The project covers 25 presidents from Subhi Barakat in 1922 to Ahmed al-Sharaa in 2025, alongside 10 flags used across different periods of Syria’s modern history. Each entry combines a portrait, key dates and selected historical context.

Ali said the idea came from noticing that many people are unfamiliar with Syria’s political history. Rather than presenting a complete historical reference, he designed the website as an accessible starting point that encourages visitors to explore further.

The site also includes animated collage films, including a four-minute overview of the presidents and flags, a shorter version for social media, and a standalone introduction to the national flags. Ali noted that limited archival images from the country’s early state-building period made the project more challenging, with some available material requiring enhancement.

The website lists its image and design sources, including public-domain and Creative Commons materials, with attribution provided for the collages.
