Khalifa University Launches RFGPT Trial for Telecom Operators

Telecom operators can now test RFGPT, an AI model designed to interpret radio signals and answer questions about them in plain language.

Khalifa University of Science and Technology, the GSMA and AMD launched the operator trial at MWC Doha 2026. Participating operators will receive two weeks of API access to the radio-frequency foundation model, which runs on AMD compute.

Developed by Khalifa University’s Digital Future Institute, RFGPT combines wireless signal analysis with natural-language interaction. Operators can use it to identify signal characteristics, interpret multiple signals and examine crowded spectrum environments.

The trial will explore applications in network planning, spectrum management, interference analysis, radio access network optimisation and performance management. RFGPT can identify technologies including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE and 5G New Radio, while also analysing modulation schemes, signal overlap and selected 5G parameters.

Operators must submit a use case before the research team agrees on the evaluation scope, access arrangements and trial dates. They will provide feedback on the model’s performance, usability and relevance to their operations.

Khalifa University first announced RFGPT in February, describing it as a radio-frequency language model that integrates RF spectrograms into a multimodal system. The model was trained on about 625,000 synthetic instruction examples across roughly 12,000 simulated scenes and six wireless technologies.
