Meta is reportedly developing Luna, a new pair of smart glasses without built-in cameras, as it explores a more privacy-conscious approach to wearable AI.
According to a report by The Information, the glasses are designed around voice interaction rather than photography or video recording. Luna is expected to include six built-in microphones, access to Meta’s AI chatbot and Muse, the company’s consumer-focused AI agent.
A physical button on the side of the glasses could let users activate Meta’s AI systems and begin voice-based interactions. The camera-free design may appeal to people interested in AI-powered wearables but concerned about being seen wearing a device capable of recording others without their knowledge.
The reported device reflects Meta’s broader effort to make AI a central feature of its wearable technology. Users could potentially ask questions and perform tasks through spoken commands, with less emphasis on image capture.
Meta has not officially confirmed Luna or announced a commercial launch date. The report suggests the company could unveil the device at Meta Connect, its annual hardware and developer event, which typically covers smart glasses, extended reality and artificial intelligence.
