Oman’s SME development company, Sharakah, recently facilitated a virtual event aimed at strengthening trade ties between small and medium-sized enterprises in Oman and Bahrain. The webinar brought together key government and business entities from both nations to map out opportunities for cross-border collaboration and investment.

Bridging Gulf Markets for SME Growth
Titled “Strengthening Trade Relations Between SMEs in the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Bahrain,” the event served as a platform for entrepreneurs, exporters, and importers to connect and explore market expansion. The initiative was a joint effort with the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office in Bahrain, the ministries of commerce from both countries, the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB), and Export Bahrain.
The core objective was to provide practical guidance on the regulatory and commercial frameworks governing trade between the two Gulf nations, helping business owners navigate market entry and build new partnerships.
Key Insights from Omani and Bahraini Experts
The discussion, directed by Sharakah Investment Manager Ms. Umaima Al Ghadani, featured presentations from several officials. From Bahrain, speakers including Dr. Hashem Hussein of UNIDO and Ms. Shaikha Al Fadhel detailed the country’s SME strategy and support initiatives. Mr. Bader Ali and Ms. Rabab Khalaf outlined market entry and export opportunities in Bahrain.
Representing Oman, Ms. Rawan Al Nazwani presented pathways for establishing a business in the Sultanate, while Ms. Lubna Al Harthy highlighted export opportunities for Omani SMEs looking to expand internationally. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, allowing direct engagement between participants and the presenting experts.
A Strategic Push for Regional Cooperation
Ali Ahmed Muqaibal, CEO of Sharakah, emphasized the event’s strategic value. “Creating stronger commercial links between neighboring markets is essential for the continued growth of SMEs,” he commented. “This webinar has equipped entrepreneurs with valuable market knowledge, practical guidance, and direct access to key stakeholders.”
Dr. Hashim Hussein of UNIDO echoed this sentiment, stating, “Strengthening regional cooperation is fundamental to enabling SMEs to compete and grow in an increasingly interconnected marketplace. This initiative has brought together the right partners to exchange knowledge, address common challenges, and create new opportunities for collaboration.”
