The University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Oman reported a sharp increase in student entrepreneurship, with 364 student-led startups recorded during the latest academic year, up from 68 the year before.
The university said 331 students are now entrepreneurs, while incubators operate across all of its branches. Fifty-three student-led startups have received local or regional awards.
The university currently has 10,563 students across its branches and academic disciplines, a figure that could rise to 12,000. During the 2025/26 academic year, it introduced nine graduate programs and continued updating its curricula to match labour-market needs, including the development of a bachelor’s program in pharmaceutical sciences.
Its initiatives also include the ICESCO Chair for AI Ethics and a strategic technology studies chair focused on cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, emerging technologies and space.
The university said its AI Makers initiative attracted 222 participants during the 2024/25 season. In 2025, it published 1,226 research papers, carried out 185 internally funded research projects worth around OMR134,000, and submitted 30 patent applications. It also received five strategic research projects in partnership with local organisations.
