Saudi digital mapping company Hudhud has launched Hudhud Maps in Riyadh, positioning it as the country’s first fully Saudi navigation app and a local alternative to global platforms.
The launch follows an agreement signed by the General Authority for Survey and Geospatial Information, the National Technology Development Program and Huhud during LEAP 2024. The partnership aims to build national geospatial data infrastructure, support startups and improve mobility services in Saudi Arabia.
According to the announcement, Hudhud Maps provides updated traffic data, congestion alerts, alternative routes and Arabic voice navigation delivered in a Saudi voice. Users can also explore locations through detailed listings and panoramic 2D and 3D imagery.
The application’s databases and servers are hosted in Saudi Arabia, which the company said supports the protection of sensitive geographic data. Its underlying technology combines locally collected data with satellite navigation systems, remote sensing and artificial intelligence to update roads and track urban changes.
The platform is also expected to support logistics and create opportunities in surveying, smart systems development and data analysis. Its launch reflects Saudi Arabia’s push to develop locally built digital infrastructure and services tailored to the country’s operating environment.
