Snap is adding AI, entertainment and workplace tools to its Specs augmented reality glasses as it works to broaden the appeal of the $2,195 device beyond photography and consumer use.
At an event in Los Angeles, the company introduced Specs Intelligence, an anticipatory AI service designed to work across Specs, iPhone and Mac. Snap said the service can learn from connected apps and tools to surface relevant information and actions. An iOS preview is available in the U.S. for users aged 18 and older, while early access on Mac will be invitation-only.
The glasses will also support services including YouTube, HBO Max and Spotify, alongside translation, navigation, shopping, fitness and educational experiences. Snap said translation will support 60 languages.
For businesses, Snap announced Specs for Enterprise with Salesforce, Amazon Web Services, NVIDIA, Trifork and Hololight. The offering is aimed at hands-free work in settings such as retail, factories and field operations, with use cases including technical support and access to company data.
A separate charging case with cellular connectivity will offer four additional charges. In the U.S., the connected bundle will cost $2,395, while data plans through Verizon start at $10 per month for Verizon customers and $20 for non-customers.
Specs are available for preorder with a $200 refundable deposit, and shipping is expected to begin later this fall in the U.S., UK and France. Consumers can try the glasses at a Los Angeles pop-up starting October 1.
