UAE-based data and AI company CNTXT AI has announced the launch of Munsit Edge, one of the first Arabic speech-to-text systems capable of running entirely on a device without requiring a cloud connection. The new system delivers real-time Arabic transcription on consumer hardware, a significant move for data privacy and offline functionality in the region.
Quick Facts
- Runs fully on-device with no cloud connection
- Real-time transcription with ~150 ms latency
- Supports major Arabic dialects and code-switching
- No quality trade-off from cloud-based models
A First for Arabic Speech Recognition
Until now, Arabic speech-to-text (STT) systems have relied on cloud inference, where audio is sent to remote servers for processing. This method introduces latency, infrastructure costs, and potential privacy issues. Munsit Edge overcomes these challenges by moving the AI model out of data centers and onto the devices where conversations happen, from phones and cars to smart home devices.
“Until today, the Arab world has never had Arabic speech recognition that truly ran on the devices people use,” said Mohammad Abu Sheikh, CEO of CNTXT AI. “Your calls, your cars, your homes – all of them can now understand Arabic in real time without sending a single second of audio to a third‑party cloud.”
The system is built on the same Munsit Arabic ASR model, which has set a benchmark for transcription accuracy across Gulf, Egyptian, Levantine, and Modern Standard Arabic dialects, as well as Arabic-English code-switching.
Data Sovereignty at the Edge
By processing speech locally, Munsit Edge addresses critical data sovereignty requirements for sensitive sectors. This is particularly important for banking, government, and contact center operations where customer data must remain within a controlled environment.
“Sovereignty isn’t just where your data is stored. It’s where it’s processed,” Abu Sheikh added. “For a bank handling a customer’s voice or a government running a citizen helpline, what matters is that Arabic speech can be understood on their own infrastructure. Munsit Edge makes it possible to do that on phones, PCs, and edge devices across the region.”
Key applications include real-time call transcription for contact centers with zero per-minute server costs, voice services that meet strict data residency rules in banking, and Arabic voice interfaces in vehicles and embedded systems that can function without a cellular connection.
Availability and Integration
Munsit Edge is available for integration through native SDKs for iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and Linux. The company also offers on-premise containers for private cloud deployment and embedded builds for automotive, smart home, and industrial hardware. The broader Munsit platform remains available via a secure cloud API for organizations that require a hybrid approach.
