UAE’s EasyLease Taps Empala To Pilot Electric Bikes For Last-Mile Delivery Operations

4 Min Read

EasyLease, a major UAE provider of integrated mobility solutions and subsidiary of IHC, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UAE-based electric vehicle company Empala. The agreement launches a proof-of-concept program to test Empala’s purpose-built electric motorbikes within EasyLease’s extensive last-mile delivery and fleet management operations.

Quick Facts

  • MoU signed between EasyLease and Empala.
  • Pilot program for electric delivery bikes in UAE.
  • Focus on performance in live last-mile delivery routes.

Putting Electric Bikes to the Test on UAE Roads

Under the new agreement, Empala will supply electric delivery bikes to be integrated into selected live delivery routes managed by EasyLease. This initiative is designed to generate crucial operational and performance data under real-world conditions, allowing the fleet management giant to properly evaluate the suitability of electric bikes alongside its existing fleet of over 49,000 vehicles.

The MoU establishes a clear framework for managing the pilot, covering operational oversight, performance assessment metrics, and considerations for future fleet integration. This structured approach aligns with EasyLease’s strategy of carefully assessing new vehicle technologies before broader adoption.

A Strategic Move for Fleet Diversification

For EasyLease, this trial represents a key step in its ongoing efforts to assess lower-emission mobility solutions and diversify its portfolio while maintaining operational efficiency for clients in e-commerce, logistics, and food service.

“Last-mile delivery demands vehicles that are reliable, cost-efficient, and suited to intensive urban use,” commented Charbel Kobrianos, Deputy CEO of EasyLease. “The electric bikes tested during the trial will provide useful operational insight into where this category can perform effectively within delivery fleets, and how it may fit within the broader vehicle mix we manage across the Group.”

Empala’s Push for Purpose-Built EV Solutions

Empala, a joint venture between Pact Carbon Limited and the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MOEI), operates under the country’s “Road 2.0” initiative for sustainable mobility. The company believes its purpose-built electric motorbikes can outperform traditional petrol vehicles in the high-intensity UAE delivery market.

“Last-mile delivery in the UAE operates at an intensity that demands purpose-built solutions,” added Alexander Magid, Deputy CEO of Empala. “Empala was built on the belief that electric can outperform petrol for delivery operators, on cost, on reliability, and on the demands of daily urban use. Working with EasyLease provides an opportunity to test the Empala bike in live delivery conditions and generate practical operational insight.”
