Unveiling “Maeen” and a National AI Strategy
The launch of the “Maeen” AI language model is a landmark step for Oman, aimed at enhancing digital sovereignty and maximizing the efficiency of government services. This was complemented by the announcement of a new specialized artificial intelligence zone and a Green AI Alliance, which will foster partnerships between government, the private sector, and international academic institutions to promote sustainable AI development.
A Raft of New Digital Initiatives
Alongside its AI-focused projects, the Omani government also unveiled several other key initiatives to bolster its digital ecosystem:
- The Digital Triangle Project
- 30 new e-government services on the Unified Digital Services Portal
- A new National Open Data Portal to encourage innovation
These projects are part of the National Programme for the Digital Economy, a strategic plan to create a diversified and sustainable economy driven by technology and knowledge.
Growing Investor Confidence
Reflecting strong momentum in the country’s tech sector, RO 42 million ($109 million) worth of new agreements were signed during the event. This builds on past successes, including RO 200 million in deals signed at COMEX 2024 and another RO 40 million at LEAP 2025 in Saudi Arabia, underscoring growing investor confidence in Oman’s digital future.
Pushing New Frontiers in Space Tech
Oman also highlighted its recent success in the space industry with the “Duqm-1” mission, the Middle East’s first-ever space rocket launch experiment. The mission was notably executed with 80% Omani manpower, showcasing the nation’s growing capabilities in high-tech fields.
