Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has announced an upcoming major update to the EgyptInnovate platform, a national portal designed to support the country’s burgeoning startup ecosystem. The announcement was made by Dr. Amr Talaat, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, during his address at the Techne Summit 2025 in Alexandria. The revamped platform, developed by local startups, aims to accelerate growth by more effectively connecting founders with investors and critical resources.
New Features To Drive Investment
The updated EgyptInnovate will introduce several powerful features. A core component is an interactive, open-source data map that will showcase the landscape of Egyptian startups, allowing local and international investors to easily discover, evaluate, and compare tech-enabled companies. To directly support founders, the platform will integrate an AI-powered chatbot to provide technical, economic, and business guidance. It will also include a comprehensive service directory, classifying support services from governmental and non-governmental entities for each stage of a startup’s life cycle. The platform currently serves over 70,000 users, a number the ministry aims to double in the near future.
A Pillar of The Digital Egypt Strategy
This initiative is a key part of the government’s broader “Digital Egypt” strategy, which prioritizes innovation and entrepreneurship. Minister Talaat highlighted the strategy’s success, noting that investment in ICT startups has multiplied sevenfold over the last five years (2020-2025) compared to the preceding five-year period. This growth is supported by expanding infrastructure, including the increase of “Creativa” innovation centers from just three in 2018 to 24 centers across 21 governorates today, which have collectively supported around 790 companies.
Expanding Access to Capital
The ministry is actively working to bridge the funding gap for early-stage companies. Dr. Talaat emphasized strategic partnerships with global accelerators like Plug and Play and 500 Global, which are being expanded beyond Cairo to create investor-startup matchmaking forums in Upper Egypt, the Delta region, and Alexandria. These efforts are complemented by direct support programs such as “Start IT,” which offers financial and in-kind packages valued at up to EGP 1 million per company, and the “Creativa Incubation” program, providing up to EGP 400,000 in support during a nine-month incubation period.
