Dubai is advancing its commitment to tech-driven social good with a significant expansion of its “Bread for All” initiative. The Mohammed bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy (MBRGCEC), in affiliation with the Endowment and Minors’ Trust Foundation in Dubai (Awqaf Dubai), has launched a new phase of the program, introducing smart devices to distribute hot meals to labour communities around the clock.
This latest development builds upon the initiative’s successful foundation, further integrating modern technology into community support and endowment models.
Tech-Driven Social Impact
The upgraded devices represent a major leap forward in the program’s operational efficiency and user experience. Each unit is equipped with a redesigned, intuitive digital touchscreen and a refrigeration system to ensure meals are kept fresh.
To manage distribution effectively, the machines feature smart indicators that track performance, stock levels, and maintenance requirements. A smart ID system has also been integrated to ensure fair access, allowing each beneficiary to receive one meal per day. New units have already been installed near several mosques across Dubai, with plans for further expansion based on community needs.
A Modern Approach to Endowment
Ali Al Mutawa, Secretary-General of Awqaf Dubai, highlighted that the initiative reflects Dubai’s mission to support low-income segments of society through innovative endowment models.
“This new phase continues the journey of giving in a more advanced and sustainable manner, with a focus on expanding the base of beneficiaries and strengthening the spirit of social responsibility,” Al Mutawa stated.
He also emphasized that the initiative offers multiple avenues for public and corporate support, including donations, device sponsorship, or direct meal contributions, aiming to foster greater solidarity and community development.
Building on Initial Success
The expansion follows a successful first year for the program, which launched in 2022 and distributed thousands of hot loaves of bread daily.
Zainab Juma Al Tamimi, Director of MBRGCEC, noted that the technology has now become “more intelligent,” offering remote-control capabilities and a more diverse selection of meals beyond bread. The strong community and donor engagement since its inception has established “Bread for All” as a dignified, endowment-driven model for supporting labour communities across the emirate.
