Dr. Nesreen El-Baghdadi, Vice President of the National Council for Women (NCW), has emphasized that investing in young men and women is a national necessity for securing a robust economy and a more sustainable, inclusive future for Egypt. The statement was delivered during her participation in the annual Iftar organized by Education for Employment-Egypt.
Dr. El-Baghdadi stressed the NCW’s dedication to strengthening partnerships with civil society, the private sector, and international institutions. These collaborations aim to deliver specialized training programs, support entrepreneurship, and create new opportunities for economic empowerment driven by technology and digital services.
A National Priority Aligned With Vision 2030
Aligning with Egypt’s Vision 2030, Dr. El-Baghdadi noted that investing in human capital, particularly youth, is a cornerstone of the nation’s sustainable development goals. She highlighted that the Egyptian state, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, has placed the empowerment of women and youth at the core of its national strategy.
This focus is demonstrated through extensive training and skill-building programs, expanding decent employment opportunities, and promoting fair economic participation. Significant progress has been made in supporting youth, especially in the high-growth fields of technology and digital transformation, which are shaping the future of the global economy.
Fostering Tech Skills and Entrepreneurship
The NCW is actively working to enhance women’s participation in promising fields such as Artificial Intelligence and technical education. Dr. El-Baghdadi pointed to entrepreneurship as a primary pathway for women’s economic empowerment.
The council’s Women’s Skills Development Center plays a pivotal role in this effort through training programs, workshops, and production units. These initiatives, part of the National Project for the Development of the Egyptian Family, are designed to create sustainable jobs and support women’s micro and small enterprises across various governorates.
Strategic Committees to Drive Empowerment
To institutionalize these efforts, the NCW has formed several strategic committees. This includes a Small Projects and Entrepreneurship Committee, chaired by former Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea, to develop policies and coordinate with relevant bodies to expand women’s role in the freelance market.
A Youth Committee, chaired by Ohoud Wafi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Hayah Karima Foundation, focuses on integrating youth perspectives and building their capacity for entrepreneurship. The council also features committees for Scientific Research, Technology, and Cybersecurity, and for Education, reinforcing its role in shaping policies that boost women’s involvement in knowledge and tech sectors.
Key Initiatives and Partnerships
Dr. El-Baghdadi praised the efforts of Education for Employment-Egypt in bridging the gap between educational outcomes and labor market demands. She also highlighted the NCW’s “She Leads” program, implemented in collaboration with the Youth Leaders Foundation, which aims to qualify female entrepreneurs from technical education schools across the country.
Expressing gratitude for the collaboration, she conveyed the NCW’s ambition for continued partnership to support youth, enhance women’s economic empowerment, and build a more prosperous future for Egypt.
