Morocco has officially launched the “AI Made in Morocco” initiative, a national program designed to cultivate a domestic innovation ecosystem and secure the nation’s technological sovereignty. Announced by Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, the initiative serves as a cornerstone of the wider Digital Morocco 2030 Strategy, which aims to position the Kingdom as a regional hub for advanced digital industries.
The announcement was made during a scientific seminar at the Euro-Mediterranean University of Fez, with a specific focus on Industry X.0—the next evolution of digital manufacturing—and Health Tech.
Securing Technological Sovereignty in a Multi-Trillion Dollar Market
Minister Seghrouchni emphasized the vast economic potential of artificial intelligence, highlighting projections that the global AI market will surge from $189 billion in 2023 to nearly $4.8 trillion by 2033.
By championing “Made in Morocco” solutions, the government intends to equip local enterprises to compete effectively in this rapidly transforming global landscape, ensuring that the economic benefits of the AI revolution are anchored within the country.
Al-Jazari Institute to Bridge Academia and Industry
A major milestone of the launch event was the signing of an agreement to establish the Al-Jazari Institute of Industry X.0. This new research body is designed to act as a vital bridge between academic research and the private sector.
The institute will be built on partnerships with leading institutions like Al Akhawayn University and Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University. Its primary focus will be on the practical application of AI in industrial automation and healthcare, ensuring that Morocco’s digital transformation is underpinned by high-level domestic research and expertise.
