Iraq’s Media and Communications Commission has announced a plan to establish national infrastructure for artificial intelligence and advanced data processing.
The plan was discussed during a meeting between Baligh Abu Kilal, head of the commission’s executive body, and Diaa Al-Jumaili, the prime minister’s adviser for artificial intelligence affairs. According to a commission statement, the two sides explored cooperation on AI, modern technologies and the development of national technical infrastructure.
The proposed project would create specialized infrastructure capable of supporting AI applications and advanced data-processing systems. The discussions also focused on investing in young people, building their skills and giving Iraqi talent opportunities to contribute to future technology projects.
Abu Kilal said Iraq should move beyond simply using AI applications and focus on building the infrastructure needed for local institutions to develop their own solutions. He also highlighted the role of national and academic expertise in strengthening the country’s technology capabilities.
The two sides agreed to continue coordination, exchange expertise and review proposed initiatives aimed at expanding AI capabilities across Iraqi institutions and sectors.
