Google TV Integrates Gemini AI for Visual Answers and Sports Briefs

4 Min Read

Google unveiled three new Gemini-powered features for Google TV on Tuesday, bringing visual responses, comprehensive topic explorations, and narrated sports recaps directly to the living room screen.

Quick Facts

  • Visual AI answers feature live scorecards and video tutorials.

  • Narrated “deep dives” explore complex topics like health economics.

  • Current rollout covers US and Canada, expanding this spring.

Visual AI and Interactive Topic Exploration

A major addition to the platform is the introduction of visual responses. Users querying live sports scores, such as a Warriors game, will now receive live scorecards alongside direct viewing options. When searching for recipes, Gemini will support its text responses with relevant video tutorials.

Google TV is also rolling out “deep dives,” a feature initially showcased at CES 2026. This function allows users to explore complex topics through narrated visual breakdowns. Whether asking about the physical effects of cold plunging, economic theories, or technology trends, users can initiate these explorations by selecting “Dive deeper” in the response menu or navigating to the “Learn” option under the Gemini tab.

Narrated Briefs for Sports Fans

Targeting viewers who want to track their favorite leagues without watching full broadcasts, Gemini has introduced “sports briefs.”

Users can prompt the AI for timely, narrated overviews of events across major leagues like the NBA, NHL, and MLB. This update serves as a direct follow-up to the “news briefs” feature Google launched a year ago to summarize daily headlines.

The Evolution of Gemini on Smart Screens

Gemini made its debut on Google TV in September 2025, initially as a limited release for select TCL televisions. Over the past year, the integration has expanded to a wider range of hardware, moving beyond basic content search.

Recent updates have allowed users to adjust system settings using natural language—such as fixing dim screens or correcting audio imbalances—bypassing traditional menus entirely. The system also supports voice searches through Google Photos libraries, alongside the ability to apply AI-generated styles and visual effects.

Google is currently rolling out the new features to users in the United States and Canada. The company plans to expand Gemini’s updated capabilities to Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom this spring, with additional markets to follow.

What This Means for the MENA Tech Ecosystem

While the initial rollout targets North America, the shift toward AI-curated entertainment sets a new benchmark for consumer hardware that will inevitably impact expectations in the Middle East and North Africa.

MENA boasts a massive, digital-first demographic with some of the highest video content and sports consumption rates globally. As global tech giants embed AI directly into the operating systems of household hardware, regional media platforms and startups specializing in Arabic natural language processing (NLP) will face pressure to adapt. Local founders building in the media, smart home, and entertainment sectors should view this as a clear signal: interactive, hyper-personalized, and localized visual AI experiences are becoming the standard, not an optional add-on.
