The Oman Investment Authority (OIA), the sultanate’s sovereign wealth fund, has announced an investment in Neuralink, Elon Musk’s ambitious brain-computer interface company. The move deepens the Omani fund’s exposure to Musk’s portfolio of tech ventures and signals a strategic push into future medical technologies.
Quick Facts
- OIA invests in brain chip firm Neuralink.
- The investment value remains undisclosed.
- Follows OIA’s stakes in Musk’s xAI and SpaceX.
A Strategic Bet on Future Tech
In a statement, the OIA confirmed the investment aligns with its strategy to diversify its global holdings by backing innovative sectors and next-generation medical technology. While the financial terms were not made public, the investment positions the Omani fund as a backer of one of the most talked-about and complex deep-tech ventures globally.
Neuralink, co-founded by Musk in 2016, develops high-bandwidth brain implants designed to enable direct communication between the human brain and digital devices. The company’s primary mission is to address complex neurological conditions such as stroke and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
As of early this year, Neuralink has implanted its neural devices in 21 patients and is reportedly aiming to conduct 1,000 implant procedures by the end of the year.
Doubling Down on the Musk Portfolio
This investment is not the OIA’s first foray into Musk’s ecosystem of companies. The wealth fund previously invested in xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, in December 2024.
The OIA is also a shareholder in SpaceX, the aerospace manufacturer and space transportation services company best known for its Starlink satellite communications system. This latest move with Neuralink underscores a clear pattern of betting on high-risk, high-reward technology companies led by the serial entrepreneur.
