The Arab International Women’s Forum (AIWF), a global institution dedicated to advancing female economic empowerment across the MENA region, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. The milestone marks a quarter-century of building economic and cultural bridges, with a renewed strategic focus for 2026 on preparing women to succeed in the digital economy.

Quick Facts

  • Founded in London in 2001 by Haifa Al Kaylani, OBE.
  • YAWL program has mentored over 3,000 young Arab women.
  • 2026 strategy targets AI and women’s tech entrepreneurship.

From Cultural Dialogue to Economic Influence

Founded in London in 2001 by Haifa Al Kaylani, OBE, the AIWF was established to build cultural and economic links between the Arab world and the international community, with women at the core of its mission. Over the years, the organization evolved from a platform for cross-cultural dialogue into an influential body that helps shape policy, supports female leadership, and drives inclusive economic growth.

Through collaborations with governments, the private sector, and academic institutions, AIWF has consistently pushed for greater female participation in key sectors. Its work supports women’s entrepreneurship, corporate governance, and increased involvement in future-focused fields like sustainability, STEM, and the digital economy.

A Vision for Unlocking Potential

Reflecting on the journey, Haifa Al Kaylani, Founder and Chairwoman of AIWF, stated, “Twenty-five years ago, the Arab International Women’s Forum was launched with the firm belief that no society or economy can achieve its full potential unless it fully utilizes half of its human resources and talent. What began as an ambitious vision to build bridges between women in the Arab world and their counterparts globally has now become an influential global platform supporting economic empowerment and women’s leadership.”

She added, “We are proud of the impactful achievements we have made and the positive effect we have had on many lives. We also value the exceptional community of partners, board members, supporters, and young leaders that the Forum has built, who continue to carry this message into the future.”

Developing the Next Wave of Talent

A key initiative for the forum is the “Young Arab Women Leaders (YAWL)” program. Since its launch, the program has provided mentorship, networking opportunities, and leadership development for over 3,000 young women across the Arab world. By connecting emerging talent with established female leaders, the YAWL program helps prepare the next generation for significant roles in business, public life, and innovation.

The AIWF continues to advocate for removing barriers to women’s economic participation and works to increase female representation on corporate boards and in senior leadership positions.

AI as the Next Frontier

To mark its 25th year, the forum is highlighting artificial intelligence as a primary driver for women’s economic empowerment and tech entrepreneurship in the MENA region. The goal is to equip female entrepreneurs and tech leaders with advanced skills, influential networks, and a voice in policy discussions to ensure they are positioned for success in innovation-led economies.

The forum’s work is guided by its board and supported by long-term global partners, including PepsiCo, Pfizer, PwC, AstraZeneca, and the Arab Insurance Group.
