Qatar’s APC Builds In-House AI Platform to Overhaul Industrial Maintenance

3 Min Read

Doha-based manufacturer Advanced Pipes & Casts Co. (APC), a subsidiary of the Aamal Company, has launched a proprietary AI-powered maintenance platform developed entirely by its internal team. The new APC Maintenance Hub is designed to integrate artificial intelligence directly into the daily operations of its heavy industrial facility.

Quick Facts

  • In-house AI platform developed and launched.
  • Automates inventory, supplier identification, and data analysis.
  • Aims to shift maintenance from reactive to proactive.

From Factory Floor to AI Developer

In a move that challenges the standard reliance on external tech vendors, APC’s own Maintenance Department spearheaded the development of the platform. The project was initiated to tackle specific internal hurdles, including fragmented data across different systems, slow troubleshooting procedures for complex machinery, and cumbersome manual inventory management.

The platform is now live, unifying asset management, engineering drawing generation, spare parts inventory, supplier identification, and real-time operational analytics into a single interface used in daily workflows.

AI Tools for Real-World Problems

The APC Maintenance Hub introduces several practical AI-driven tools. An AI Chat Assistant gives maintenance teams immediate access to live operational data, allowing them to query maintenance histories, check inventory levels, or review machine performance in real time. This function is built to accelerate decision-making on the factory floor.

For engineers, the platform can generate technical drawings from simple images or descriptions and automatically extract specifications from machine nameplates, significantly cutting down on documentation time. Inventory management has also been automated; the system can now process delivery notes and invoices without manual data entry and uses AI to identify the best local or international suppliers for necessary spare parts.

MENA’s Industrial AI Push

APC’s initiative reflects a broader trend across the Middle East, where manufacturers are adopting industrial AI faster than any other region globally. According to Rockwell Automation’s State of Smart Manufacturing Report, 98% of Middle East manufacturers view digital transformation as essential.

The report also found that regional companies are committing nearly 30% of their operating budgets to technology investments, with AI and machine learning delivering the highest ROI. APC’s success in building a bespoke solution internally demonstrates a growing capability within the region’s industrial sector to develop and deploy its own advanced technology.
