Bahrain has joined the Locarno Agreement, an international framework that classifies industrial designs and helps standardise registration procedures and protection systems.
The Kingdom deposited its instrument of accession with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva. The move took place in the presence of Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, Bahrain’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva.
The agreement is designed to improve the efficiency of industrial design registration, strengthen international cooperation and align national intellectual property systems with global standards.
According to the Bahrain News Agency, Bahrain sees the accession as part of its efforts to build a stronger intellectual property ecosystem, support innovation and knowledge-based economic growth, and attract investment by reinforcing investor confidence.
