A team from New Cairo Technological University has won first place nationwide at the Innovation in Computing and Artificial Intelligence Hackathon, hosted by Kafr El Sheikh University and attended by students from universities across Egypt.

The winning team, Layer 2 Guys, consists of students Mostafa Mazhar and Hassan Mohamed. Their project, SecuLab, combines cybersecurity with generative artificial intelligence to create a practical training platform for cybersecurity students.

SecuLab simulates real-world environments where trainees can learn network security, web application penetration testing, mobile application security and Active Directory services. The platform also includes an AI assistant that provides guidance and support during training, according to the announcement.

The judging committee praised the project’s technical quality and recommended developing it into a startup focused on training and preparing cybersecurity students. It also noted the platform’s potential to expand and serve the wider community.

The achievement reflects Egypt’s push to support technological education, applied research and student entrepreneurship. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research said such initiatives aim to connect university learning with labor-market needs and help students turn technology and AI into practical solutions.
