Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is sponsoring the second edition of the Responsible AI Competition for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises building or using artificial intelligence systems.
The competition is organised by the Knowledge Access for Development Center at the American University in Cairo’s Onsi Sawiris School of Business, in partnership with the MENA Observatory for Responsible AI. According to the announcement, it is the region’s first incentive-based initiative focused on responsible AI.
Participating ventures will be assessed on privacy, accountability, environmental impact, safety, transparency, fairness, human oversight and responsibility. The application process has two stages: an expression of interest outlining eligibility and the AI solution, followed by a detailed self-assessment for shortlisted projects.
The first-place winner will receive $4,000, while the second- and third-place winners will receive $3,000 and $2,000, respectively. Recognition awards will also be given to the fourth- and fifth-place projects. The closing ceremony is scheduled for November 24.
Applications for the second edition must be submitted by September 10. The programme also includes specialised workshops and training designed to help participating ventures strengthen their responsible AI practices.
