Zewail City for Science, Technology and Innovation is targeting the incubation of 200 startups by 2030 as part of a broader strategy covering education, research, innovation and partnerships, according to CEO Dr. Wael Akel.

The plan includes expanding the university’s student population to 10,000 undergraduate students, 2,500 postgraduate students and 1,000 international students. The city also aims to double its research output every three years and secure international accreditation for 80% of its academic programs.

The university has added or revised 16 undergraduate and postgraduate programs to better match labour market needs. These include mechatronics, cybersecurity, biotechnology, financial technology, management information systems and digital marketing. Its academic offering spans four colleges covering science, engineering, computing and artificial intelligence, and business administration.

Zewail City also plans to develop its Technology Valley into “Zewail Innovation Valley,” bringing together startups, researchers, investors and industrial partners. The proposed expansion includes shared applied laboratories, industrial collaboration spaces, incubation and acceleration facilities, and early-stage funding mechanisms.

The city said its technology transfer office is working to identify research suitable for patenting, secure industrial partners and support the development of market-ready products. It is also expanding research capacity in areas including artificial intelligence, quantum computing and smart agriculture.
