Saudi Arabia’s Royal Institute of Traditional Arts, Wirth, has launched a traditional embroidery apprenticeship program designed to train Saudis in embroidery, product development and craft entrepreneurship.

The 18-month program will be delivered in Riyadh and is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2026. It is divided into three six-month levels, combining practical training with direct instruction from craftspeople and specialists.

Participants will progress from embroidery fundamentals and sewing techniques to hand, digital and machine embroidery. The curriculum also covers traditional stitches, fabrics and materials, digital design, creative thinking, craft product development and entrepreneurship.

According to the announcement, the business-focused component will cover project planning, feasibility studies, product pricing and marketing. The goal is to help participants turn traditional craft skills into professional opportunities or scalable ventures while reinterpreting Saudi heritage through contemporary products.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and either Saudi nationals or children of Saudi mothers. They must commit full time, pass an admissions test and skills assessment, and meet the program’s health and conduct requirements. Employees must provide written approval from their employers. The institute said places are limited.
