Tunisian Businesswomen’s Chamber Highlights AI’s Role in Expanding Women’s Entrepreneurship

Artificial intelligence can help women entrepreneurs reach new markets, save time and build professional skills, according to Leila Belkhiria, president of Tunisia’s National Chamber of Businesswomen.

Speaking at the opening of the International Forum for Women Entrepreneurs in Sfax on October 27, 2026, Belkhiria said AI tools can also support product promotion and exports through social media platforms. She added that the chamber has launched a program targeting both local and international markets to strengthen businesswomen’s participation in AI and help them benefit from emerging opportunities.

Belkhiria called for training on the responsible use of AI and stronger protection of company data. She also said access to financing and skilled talent will be essential, while stressing that technology should complement rather than replace human capabilities.

Florence Basti, a representative of UN Women in Tunisia and Libya, urged women to move beyond using AI applications and take part in developing the technology and leading the sector. Participants also pointed to AI’s potential to improve productivity, create jobs, develop products and expand market access, provided women receive fair access to digital, technological and financial opportunities.

Speakers further encouraged girls and women to pursue AI and digital fields, warning that limited female representation in software development can lead to products that overlook women’s needs or reinforce bias.
