Egypt has launched a water innovation and entrepreneurship hub in partnership with the Netherlands, alongside the opening of its first call for innovative projects.

The Water Innovation and Entrepreneurship Hub was announced by Hani Sewilam, Egypt’s minister of water resources and irrigation, during the closing session of a workshop held as part of Cairo Water Week.

The initiative is funded by the Dutch Embassy, with participation from the Joint Cooperation in Applied Research program (JCAR II) and Deltares. It aims to help promising ideas move from concept to testing and wider implementation.

According to the announcement, the hub will support projects through three stages: developing ideas and assessing their technical potential, running pilot projects under real operating conditions, and scaling solutions that demonstrate practical value.

Selected projects can receive up to €100,000 each, subject to the call’s conditions. Innovators, startups, small and medium-sized companies, researchers and universities from Egypt and the Netherlands are eligible to participate.

The ministry said the hub will support Egypt’s use of technology in water management and help identify priority challenges. The National Water Research Center will contribute to the technical assessment and field validation of proposed solutions.
