Abu Dhabi is set to launch the first phase of what is billed as the largest artificial intelligence campus outside the United States by the end of this year. The project is a central piece of the UAE’s strategy to become a global power in AI infrastructure and advanced computing, positioning the capital as a critical node in the world’s technology supply chain.
Quick Facts
- World’s largest AI campus outside the US
- Planned final capacity of 5 gigawatts
- Phase one (500MW) is launching this year
- Part of the UAE-US AI Acceleration Partnership
A 5-Gigawatt Power Play
The scale of the project underscores the UAE’s ambition to meet the surging global demand for AI computing power. The campus is planned to reach a total capacity of 5 gigawatts, with the initial 500-megawatt phase on track to go live before the end of the year. This massive infrastructure investment is designed to support the development of next-generation AI models, large-scale data processing, and advanced digital services for both regional and international players.
The facility aims to create an integrated ecosystem for technology companies, startups, research institutions, and cloud providers, giving them access to the high-performance computing resources needed to build and deploy sophisticated AI applications. This move directly addresses the global infrastructure bottleneck that has become a major challenge for AI development worldwide.
Strengthening the UAE-US Tech Corridor
The AI campus is a cornerstone of the UAE-US AI Acceleration Partnership, which was announced earlier this year. The initiative was highlighted during a recent visit to Washington, D.C., by Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority. He met with US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, and other senior officials, reinforcing the strategic importance of technology cooperation between the two nations.
Leading UAE technology firms, including G42 and MGX, are already expanding investments across the AI value chain, from advanced semiconductors to AI research labs. The campus is expected to attract further international investment and collaboration, strengthening the UAE’s position as a regional technology hub and a key partner for global tech leaders. By securing sovereign access to advanced computing, the UAE is building a foundational asset for its long-term economic and digital competitiveness.
