Dubai has announced the launch of the Museum of Digital Art (MODA), the region’s first museum dedicated to digital art and emerging technologies. The initiative marks a significant step in the emirate’s strategy to bolster its cultural and creative sectors, placing it at the intersection of art and technology.
Quick Facts
- Region’s first dedicated digital art museum.
- Located in the DIFC Zabeel District.
- Will feature a “digital twin” for global access.
A New Pillar for Dubai’s Creative Economy
Launched by Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, MODA is positioned as a future-focused institution. The five-floor museum will be developed by the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC), with Dubai Culture managing its operations and strategic direction.
“The Museum of Digital Art reflects Dubai’s long-term vision of culture as a catalyst for innovation, knowledge, and human connection,” said Sheikha Latifa. “As the first institution of its kind in the region, it marks a significant milestone in the evolution of Dubai’s cultural ecosystem and reinforces our commitment to shaping a future where creativity and technology converge.”
The project aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and the Dubai Creative Economy Strategy, aiming to increase the contribution of creative industries to the city’s economy.
Her Excellency Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, noted that the museum is designed as an interactive space. “The museum is an interactive space where creativity meets advanced technology, fostering innovation among artists and giving them the room to develop ideas and strengthen their place in the cultural landscape,” she said.
DIFC’s Evolving Arts Legacy
The launch of MODA serves as a central component of DIFC’s new long-term arts strategy, which aims to guide Dubai’s cultural development over the next two decades. This strategy unifies DIFC’s existing cultural programs like Sculpture Park and Art Nights into a cohesive, year-round schedule.
His Excellency Essa Kazim, Governor of DIFC, described the museum as a natural progression of the financial center’s long-standing involvement with the arts. “The Museum of Digital Art represents a natural evolution of DIFC’s art legacy and reflects our commitment to advancing Dubai’s cultural ambitions through innovation and globally relevant experiences,” he stated.
Arif Amiri, Chief Executive Officer of DIFC Authority and Chairman of Art Dubai, added that the strategy signals “a new cultural chapter” for the district, with MODA acting as a key anchor in the DIFC Zabeel District expansion.
Bridging Physical and Digital Experiences
Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the museum is intended to be a collaborative hub for artists, researchers, and new talent. It will host both permanent and temporary exhibitions, featuring immersive and interdisciplinary experiences to promote creative exchange.
Beyond its exhibitions, MODA will heavily focus on education and talent development through specialized programs and dedicated learning spaces. A key innovation is the planned “digital twin” of the museum, a virtual model designed to provide global access and interaction, extending its reach far beyond its physical location in Dubai.
