Egypt’s Ministry of Planning and Economic Development is in discussions with Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Global Management to implement its global “100 Million Learners” initiative, aiming to strengthen the country’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. The potential partnership was discussed during a meeting between Dr. Ahmed Rostom, Minister of Planning, and a high-level delegation from the US-based institution led by Dean Dr. Charla Griffy-Brown.

Dr. Ahmed Rostom emphasized that the government is actively working to transform Egypt into a regional hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. He stated that the country is moving beyond theoretical strategies to provide tangible educational and funding opportunities for innovators on the ground.

“Investing in human capital is a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development and improving government performance,” Rostom noted. He added that collaborating with international institutions helps transfer knowledge and apply global best practices, supporting the state’s efforts to prepare its workforce for rapid economic and technological shifts.

This move is part of a broader government push to accelerate its executive program for entrepreneurship, following directives from the Prime Minister. The state also plans to increase allocations for health, education, and scientific research in its 2026/2027 fiscal year budget to build a generation capable of competing in the future job market.

Dr. Charla Griffy-Brown presented Thunderbird’s strategic vision, highlighting the school’s interest in activating the “100 Million Learners” initiative in Egypt. She explained that the program is designed to deliver innovation and entrepreneurship education, with a specific focus on developing nations and underserved communities.

“Launching the initiative from Egypt represents a key opportunity to leverage the ambitious development vision and political will currently available in the country,” Griffy-Brown said. She affirmed that choosing Egypt is a strategic move to build a sustainable partnership that yields tangible development outcomes and cultivates a new generation of entrepreneurs.
