Egypt’s academic institutions are increasingly becoming a launchpad for the country’s next wave of startups. The Faculty of Mass Communication at Ain Shams University recently showcased this trend, with two student-led graduation projects, Montu Gate and Flow Foundation, demonstrating strong potential to transition from academic concepts to market-ready companies.

Montu Gate: Gamifying Egyptian Military History
The first project, Montu Gate, is an EdTech initiative focused on producing both tabletop and digital war games. The venture aims to educate younger generations about Egypt’s military history through interactive and engaging gameplay.
Beyond gaming, the project’s business model includes organizing awareness events in schools and other institutions to foster a deeper sense of national identity. The Montu Gate team includes Omar Al-Leithi, Filmon Esmat, Shahd Zaher, Gamal Gamal, Safaa Amr, Merola Nagy, and Kenzy Sherif.
Flow Foundation: Tackling Children’s Screen Time
Addressing a growing social concern, Flow Foundation operates as a non-profit initiative designed to curb excessive screen time among children. The project brings together a specialized team of doctors and experts to develop healthy daily routines for kids.
Flow Foundation provides families with practical guidebooks and activities to help them manage technology use in a balanced and safe manner. The team behind the initiative consists of Asmaa Sabry, Basma Sayed, Ruqayyah Abdullah, Renada Mohamed, Zeina Ashraf, Sandy Alaa, Kirolos Hany, and Menna Allah Khaled.
University as an Incubator
The projects were presented as part of the first graduation showcase for the Institutional Communication program at Ain Shams University. An evaluation committee, comprising academics and professionals in marketing, content creation, and entrepreneurship, lauded both concepts.
The committee highlighted that the students presented well-defined business models and functional products developed over the academic year. They emphasized that both Montu Gate and Flow Foundation possess the necessary elements to evolve into successful and sustainable startups, capable of delivering both economic and social value.
