Google Launches Gemini’s Personal Intelligence In MENA, Tapping Into Your Gmail And Photos

4 Min Read

Google has rolled out its “Personal Intelligence” feature within the Gemini app for users across the Arab world, enabling the AI assistant to securely connect with personal apps like Gmail and Google Photos for more context-aware responses. The launch introduces a new layer of personalization for the region’s growing base of AI users.

Quick Facts

  • Gemini now connects to personal Google apps.
  • The privacy-focused feature is opt-in only.
  • It’s now available for paid subscribers in MENA.

How Personal Intelligence Works

The new capability is designed to make Gemini more practical by allowing it to reason across a user’s personal data. In practice, this means Gemini can retrieve specific details from emails, images, and other connected content to deliver highly tailored answers.

This allows the AI to handle a range of everyday tasks, from recommending books based on past conversations to helping build travel itineraries using information stored in a user’s Google account. By combining text, photos, and video inputs, Gemini can generate responses that align with an individual’s history and preferences.

A Focus on Privacy and User Control

Google emphasized that user privacy is central to the feature’s design. Personal Intelligence is turned off by default and requires users to grant explicit permission to connect with their apps. Users maintain control and can disable the feature or disconnect specific apps at any time.

When activated, Gemini only accesses the connected data to respond to a user’s direct request. Since the data remains within Google’s ecosystem, sensitive personal information is not shared with third-party services. To ensure transparency, Google noted that Gemini will aim to show how its responses are generated by referencing information pulled from connected apps, allowing users to verify the outputs.

Google’s MENA Push in the AI Race

By bringing these advanced capabilities to Arabic-speaking markets, Google is strengthening its regional AI offering and responding to the growing demand for localized, language-aware digital tools. The move reflects the increasing competition among global tech giants to expand sophisticated AI features beyond their core English-first markets.

The launch comes as the adoption of generative AI continues to accelerate across the Middle East, with both individuals and businesses exploring its applications in productivity and digital services. This expansion signals Google’s ongoing investment in scaling its AI platforms and making them more accessible to a broader international user base. The feature is currently available to users in the Arab world with Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscriptions, with plans to extend access to free users in the coming weeks.
