Jordanian information and communication technology companies are actively pursuing expansion into the Syrian market, capitalizing on the country’s accelerated tech sector growth. Appearing at the Syria Hi-Tech exhibition in Damascus, these firms are exploring opportunities in digital transformation, cybersecurity, and software development, signaling a renewed push for regional tech collaboration.
Quick Facts
- Jordanian firms are targeting Syria for tech expansion.
- Focus areas include cybersecurity, AI, and software.
- Market entry is pursued via local partnerships.
A Push for Regional Tech Integration
The move is part of a broader strategy to leverage Jordan’s extensive tech expertise in a neighboring market. According to Haitham Al-Rawajbeh, a representative for the ICT sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Jordanian companies possess deep experience that positions them well for entering Syria and engaging in technical and digital cooperation projects.
Al-Rawajbeh noted that several Jordanian firms have already initiated their entry into Syria through partnerships with local companies. “The Syrian market is important for Jordanian companies due to geographical proximity and the economic relations between the two countries,” he explained, pointing to Syria’s accelerating tech activity as a key driver for greater integration.
On-the-Ground Expansion and Local Talent
The interest is not just exploratory. Mohammad Al-Aboura, a regional sales manager at a Jordanian software company, confirmed his firm is moving towards deeper economic and technological cooperation with Syria. He expressed optimism about opening new avenues for partnerships, citing the qualitative development in the country’s tech sector.
Al-Aboura announced that his company plans to open a branch in Syria in the near future and intends to hire Syrian talent. He emphasized that his teams in Jordan are prepared to provide technical support, viewing the two countries’ tech ecosystems as complementary.
Advanced Cybersecurity Solutions for a Growing Market
Cybersecurity, in particular, has emerged as a high-demand area. Ahmad Al-Rawajbeh, an executive director of R&D at a Jordanian firm, described the Syrian market as a promising environment for collaboration, given the increasing need for advanced security solutions.
He confirmed his company’s readiness to work with Syrian institutions, companies, and banks to provide security solutions based on artificial intelligence. This includes Network Detection and Response (NDR) systems designed to protect digital infrastructure from cyberattacks and enhance overall cybersecurity resilience.
The 12th edition of the Syria Hi-Tech exhibition features 150 companies representing 345 brands from 45 Arab and foreign countries.
