Aligning Policy with Jordan’s Digital Ambitions
Dr. Moayad Al-Alawneh emphasized that Jordan’s digital economy and entrepreneurship sector receives direct attention from the country’s leadership, highlighting the push to use technology, innovation, and AI to build a modern economy. He stated the committee’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with innovation-focused institutions to develop a supportive legislative framework for the tech sector.
Members of Parliament Hussein Krishan, Ibrahim Al-Qaraleh, and Hamed Al-Rahamneh voiced their support for the association’s work. They stressed the need to expand its training and qualification programs to all governorates, ensuring that youth across the Kingdom have access to digital skill-building opportunities. The MPs also called for strengthening public-private partnerships, particularly with the Ministry of Education, to update educational curricula to reflect the demands of a digital-first world.
Tackling Unemployment Through Tech Upskilling
A key focus of the discussion was tackling Jordan’s persistent unemployment challenge. Al-Alawneh pointed to the growing regional and global demand for digital skills, stressing the need to equip a new generation with expertise in AI and digital transformation. The goal is to enable Jordanians to compete in international markets, secure remote work, and export their technical expertise globally.
The committee acknowledged that the digital economy presents a real opportunity to create high-quality, sustainable jobs. They advocated for an increase in training programs that prepare young people for emerging digital roles, positioning Jordan as a regional hub for digital talent and services.
A Multi-Center Approach to a Knowledge Economy
Dr. Hussam Abu Hamour, President of the Digital Entrepreneurship Association, outlined the organization’s vision to lead Jordan’s shift towards a sustainable, knowledge-based economy. He explained that the association works to empower entrepreneurs, particularly youth and women, and supports technology-focused startups.
The association operates through several specialized arms to achieve its goals:
- Center for Scientific Research, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship
- Center for Digital Transformation and Artificial Intelligence
- Center for Studies, Consulting, and Training
- Center for Digital Media
These centers focus on developing digital skills, supporting startups, promoting applied scientific research, and deploying AI technologies across various economic sectors.
Assessing National Readiness for Digital Transformation
Association members presented a national research initiative titled “Bridging the Gap between National Digital Transformation Discourse and Institutional Readiness in Jordan.” The project is designed to help public and private institutions evaluate their preparedness for digital transformation by analyzing key areas like personnel, knowledge, processes, technology, and governance.
The ultimate aim of the initiative is to create an executive roadmap to accelerate institutional digital adoption, improve service efficiency, and enhance public trust in digital services. At the conclusion of the meeting, the committee proposed a comprehensive national conference on the digital economy to unify efforts and develop a clear roadmap for Jordan’s technological future.
