Saham Vocational College in Oman’s North Al Batinah Governorate has launched the global Startup Weekend program, bringing together 12 student teams and more than 55 participants from higher education institutions across the Sultanate.
Supported by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority, “Riyada,” the 54-hour event began on October 22 and will conclude on October 24, according to the Oman News Agency.
The program is designed to help students turn early ideas into practical projects through creative thinking, teamwork and peer learning. Participants will develop business concepts and prototypes while building skills in innovation, problem-solving and entrepreneurship.
Noura bint Mubarak Al Qamshouei, assistant director of support services at the college and supervisor of its innovation and entrepreneurship department, said the event aims to connect students’ academic and technical skills with practical applications and labour-market needs.
The college said the initiative also supports its broader efforts to promote entrepreneurship across vocational education and encourage students to develop innovative products and services with potential for future growth.
