Saudi Arabia Opens National Platform To Regulate Data Service Providers

3 Min Read

The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has announced the opening of registration for data services and products providers on its new National Data Governance Platform. This move marks a significant step in formalizing the Kingdom’s rapidly growing data economy and creating a structured regulatory framework.

The initiative aims to organize the data market, enable companies to obtain the necessary licenses for their operations, and ensure compliance with the Kingdom’s Personal Data Protection Law and its executive regulations.

Regulating a Nascent Data Economy

This launch is a core component of SDAIA’s mandate to govern and regulate all activities related to data management and personal data protection in Saudi Arabia. By creating a formal registration and licensing process, the authority seeks to build a trusted and secure data ecosystem.

The platform will enable entities to apply for licenses covering key activities, including accreditation certification for data controllers and processors, as well as audit and inspection services related to personal data processing. This ensures that all players in the market adhere to national standards for security and privacy.

A Centralized Hub for Data Governance

The National Data Governance Platform will serve as the central hub for linking data service providers with both government and private sector entities under a unified regulatory framework. It will streamline the process for companies offering solutions in data analytics, data management, artificial intelligence, and big data processing to become officially recognized providers.

This centralized approach is designed to help government agencies and private enterprises easily identify and engage with qualified and licensed data service vendors, accelerating the adoption of advanced data technologies across various sectors.

Driving Saudi Vision 2030

The initiative directly supports the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which emphasizes the development of a digital, knowledge-based economy. By organizing the data market, SDAIA aims to unlock the potential of data as a key national asset, driving economic growth and innovation.

SDAIA has invited interested organizations to register for upcoming virtual awareness workshops that will detail the registration procedures and licensing requirements. The authority also confirmed it will soon release the technical standards for licensing and accreditation, with early registrants receiving priority in subsequent regulatory phases.
