SEQUENCIVE and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) have launched namya, a Saudi company focused on developing science-based solutions for sustainable agriculture and food security.

The launch took place under the patronage of Eng. Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen AlFadley, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, with KAUST President Prof. Sir Edward Byren and SEQUENCIVE Holding Chair and CEO Mohammed AlMadhi also in attendance.

namya’s first product, Plantiva, is based on more than a decade of research in plant biology, including work on zaxinone. According to the company, it is designed to help farmers increase crop yields, reduce fertilizer use and improve water uptake.

The product has undergone agricultural trials involving crops including potatoes, wheat, Saudi coffee, Taif roses and millet. The company said the Ministry’s Research and Innovation Deputyship supported namya through a regulatory sandbox intended to facilitate the product’s launch and commercialization.

namya is now beginning large-scale commercial applications with agricultural companies in Saudi Arabia and internationally, according to the announcement.
