SpaceX Secures $40B Debt Financing for Nvidia AI Chips

SpaceX has secured $40 billion in debt financing to purchase Nvidia GPUs, with deliveries planned for the first and second quarters of 2027, Elon Musk said.

In a post on X on October 25, Musk attributed the fundraising to SpaceX’s investment-grade credit rating and revenue from Starlink satellite internet and rocket launches. The precise financing terms, including debt pricing, remain unclear, according to Reuters.

Musk said the funding would not materially affect SpaceX’s fourth-quarter 2026 spending. The company’s CFO, Bret Johnsen, expects capital expenditures of $35 billion to $40 billion during the quarter.

He also warned that tighter debt markets could make it difficult for specialized AI cloud providers, or neoclouds, to secure additional financing. Musk predicted consolidation and potential failures among companies whose revenues depend heavily on AI data centers, while ruling out acquisitions of such businesses by SpaceX.

SpaceX reported a 161% year-over-year revenue increase to $14.58 billion for the three months ended September 30, 2026. Its AI business generated $7.56 billion, nearly ten times more than a year earlier.

The company is also working with Tesla on Terafab, a chip manufacturing venture in Austin, Texas. A first test chip is expected around May or June 2027, with large-scale manufacturing targeted for the third quarter of 2028.
