The UAE government has announced a major project to integrate advanced artificial intelligence and robotics into its labour market, aiming to significantly boost national productivity. The initiative, a collaboration between the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), will leverage self-executing “Agentic AI” models to automate processes and attract high-skilled talent.
Quick Facts
- Project leverages Agentic AI, smart algorithms, and robotics.
- Targets transforming 50% of services into self-executing systems.
- Introduces objective, data-driven assessments for work permits.
A Strategic Push for a Knowledge-Driven Economy
This move is part of a new government framework designed to keep the UAE ahead of rapid transformations in the global economy. By automating routine tasks and creating more efficient workflows, the initiative aims to reinforce the nation’s standing as a leading global hub for professional talent. The project is designed to support national objectives for a more diversified and productive labour market, enhancing the country’s ability to attract top-tier professionals in line with the modern economy’s demands.
Inside the 2026 AI Framework
The project’s ambitions are clearly outlined with specific goals for the coming years. By 2026, the framework aims to convert 50% of government services into self-executing AI systems that can manage workflows autonomously.
A core component is the integration of physical AI, with robotics being deployed across manufacturing, logistics, and infrastructure sectors to improve operational efficiency and enable real-time decision-making. The government emphasizes that the initiative is designed to empower the existing workforce, not replace it. By freeing employees from repetitive manual jobs, the goal is to allow a greater focus on creative and strategic roles.
This initiative is timed as global tech companies are projected to commit over $600 billion in capital expenditure in 2026 to build out AI infrastructure. It also aligns with the strategic goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) and the UAE Digital Transformation Strategy 2031.
Data-Driven Talent Acquisition
Set to go into effect in early May, the project will introduce new objective assessment mechanisms for work permit applications. These assessments will be based on a range of indicators, including an applicant’s professional skills, educational qualifications, prior experience, and acquired knowledge, creating a more data-centric approach to attracting skilled labour.
