DataVolt expects to begin construction of its planned artificial intelligence data centre campus at Neom’s Oxagon within the next two to three months, the company’s chief executive Rajit Nanda told AGBI.
The 1.5-gigawatt campus is being developed as an “AI factory”, designed to support workloads requiring substantial power, advanced cooling and high-speed connectivity. Neom and DataVolt signed the development agreement in February 2025.
DataVolt has not disclosed the capacity of the first phase, prospective customers or the value of contracts under discussion. The phase is expected to be funded through part of the company’s initial $5 billion investment and become operational by 2028, according to press statements.
Oxagon, Neom’s port and industrial hub on the Red Sea, will lease land to DataVolt and provide infrastructure support. Neom has said the project is intended to run entirely on renewable energy and operate at net zero.
Nanda also said DataVolt expects to secure non-recourse project financing for its Saudi facilities, including the Neom campus, within six months. The company describes Saudi Arabia’s energy resources, available land and government backing as key advantages in building lower-cost AI infrastructure.
DataVolt is wholly owned by Saudi investor Vision Invest and chaired by Paddy Padmanathan, the former chief executive of Acwa Power.
