Samsung Set To Unveil Its First Trifold Smartphone With A UAE Launch Planned

3 Min Read

Samsung Electronics is set to redefine the foldable smartphone market by showcasing its first-ever trifold device this month. The new form factor, featuring two hinges, allows the device to function as a traditional smartphone when closed and expand into a large tablet-like display when fully unfolded, marking a significant step forward in mobile technology.

A Debut at the APEC Summit

The innovative trifold smartphone will make its first public appearance at an exhibition of Korean technology during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, South Korea. While the device will be on display, attendees are not expected to have hands-on access. This initial showcase serves as a preview ahead of a wider commercial launch anticipated for later in 2025.

Design and Specifications

Leaked details suggest the device, potentially named the Galaxy Z TriFold, will feature a U-shaped folding mechanism with three display sections connected by two hinges, designed to protect the screens and enhance durability. When unfolded, it will reportedly offer an expansive 10-inch OLED inner display, complemented by a 6.5-inch outer cover screen for standard phone use. To enhance its premium build, the device is expected to feature a titanium frame. Under the hood, the Galaxy Z TriFold will likely be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, supported by up to 16GB of RAM and a three-cell battery with a combined capacity of around 5,000mAh.

MENA Launch on the Horizon

Significantly for the MENA region, reports indicate that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is one of four confirmed launch markets for the Galaxy Z TriFold, alongside the U.S., China, and South Korea. This strategic inclusion highlights the UAE’s importance as a key market for premium technology. The device is expected to carry a high price tag, with initial estimates around $3,000, positioning it as a luxury device for early adopters and tech enthusiasts in the region. Samsung’s move signals growing competition in the advanced foldable space, where it faces rivals like Huawei, which has already released a trifold device in China.
