In a significant move to enhance its global tourism appeal, Qatar’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and Qatar Tourism (QT) have officially launched the Tourism Digital Transformation Roadmap. The announcement, made during a joint press conference at MWC25 Doha, details a comprehensive strategy to integrate advanced technologies into the nation’s tourism ecosystem, fostering innovation and improving the visitor experience.
A Strategic Partnership for Innovation
The collaboration is formalized through the establishment of the Tourism Digital Transformation Office, a joint institutional platform designed to spearhead innovation and service development within the sector. This partnership underscores a new model for national strategic alliances in Qatar.
H E Reem Al Mansoori, Assistant Undersecretary for Digital Industry Affairs at MCIT, emphasized the depth of the initiative. “We are proud to formalise our cooperation with Qatar Tourism through the establishment of the Tourism Digital Transformation Office… Together, we have co-developed a comprehensive roadmap that prioritises more than 39 strategic digital initiatives, ranging from next-generation visitor-experience platforms to AI-powered analytics and predictive services.”
Driving Economic Growth Through Tech
The roadmap is built around three core pillars: enhancing the Visitor Experience and Destination Promotion, improving Sector Data Management, and streamlining Ecosystem Operations and Service Delivery. These pillars are supported by 39 strategic initiatives aimed at driving a complete digital overhaul of the tourism industry.
This ambitious plan is also set to deliver a significant economic impact, with projections indicating a contribution of approximately QR195 million to the ICT sector’s GDP. The growth is expected to stem from increased productivity, improved service efficiency, and the creation of new market opportunities.
Reimagining the Visitor Journey with AI
Omar Al Jaber, Chief of the Tourism Development Sector at Qatar Tourism, highlighted the transformative potential of the roadmap in positioning Qatar as a leading regional destination.
“The roadmap developed in partnership with MCIT marks a significant leap forward in building a world-class tourism ecosystem,” Al Jaber stated. “Leveraging AI and data-driven insights will enable us to deliver personalized experiences at scale, attract more international visitors, and strengthen Qatar’s position as a leading tourism destination in the region.”
A key feature of the roadmap is the upcoming Integrated Visitor Application, slated for a 2026 launch. This application will evolve the existing Visit Qatar platform into a unified digital companion, utilizing AI-generated itineraries and augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) capabilities to support tourists throughout their entire journey, from initial discovery to on-site engagement.
