The Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SPARK) has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Russia–UAE Business Council (RBC), establishing a formal framework to enhance collaboration and attract investment in research and emerging technologies. The agreement aims to create a streamlined pathway for Russian technology companies and research institutions to access the UAE market through Sharjah’s growing innovation ecosystem.
A Strategic Partnership For Innovation
The MoU was formalized during the high-profile Russia–UAE Business Forum in Dubai, attended by H.E. Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy, and H.E. Anton Alikhanov, Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation.
Signed by H.E. Hussain Al Mahmoudi, CEO of SPARK, and senior representatives from the Russia–UAE Business Council, the agreement underscores a shared commitment to expanding scientific, technological, and research partnerships. It paves the way for joint research projects, knowledge exchange programs, and dedicated investment facilitation for Russian tech firms looking to establish a presence at SPARK.
Targeting Key Future-Focused Sectors
The collaboration will concentrate on four strategic pillars designed to strengthen the technological competitiveness of both markets. These key areas include:
- Advanced technologies and artificial intelligence
- Smart mobility and transport solutions
- Advanced manufacturing and technology localization
- Smart city and digital infrastructure
During the forum, the SPARK delegation showcased investment opportunities and key innovation projects, including the recently launched “BASE39” urban innovation hub, inviting Russian companies to leverage the park’s advanced infrastructure.
Building On Existing Success
This partnership builds on a solid foundation, as SPARK currently hosts over 25 Russian companies operating across sectors like smart mobility, 3D printing, and advanced manufacturing. These companies leverage SPARK as their regional base, benefiting from an integrated environment that supports research, development, and commercial scaling.
The new MoU is a significant step in SPARK’s global strategy to expand its international network and solidify its position as a leading regional hub for advanced technology. The initiative is expected to foster innovation growth, enable technology transfer, and build long-term collaborative partnerships across future-focused industries.
