The “Made in Syria” festival, themed “Souk Ramadan Al Khair,” has commenced at the Old Fairgrounds City in Damascus. The event is a collaborative initiative organized by the Damascus and Rural Damascus Chamber of Industry in partnership with the Ministry of Awqaf and the Damascus Governorate, featuring the participation of 150 national companies.
A Producer-to-Consumer Model
Running until the 25th of Ramadan, the festival aims to address the needs of Syrian households during the holy month by providing a wide array of local products at reduced prices. The core strategy is a direct “producer-to-consumer” model, designed to bypass intermediary price hikes and alleviate the financial pressures on citizens.
The festival showcases a diverse range of locally manufactured goods. Featured sectors include chemical industries, with products like cleaning materials and cosmetics; a variety of food products; textiles such as clothing and carpets; and engineering products like household tools. This provides visitors with a comprehensive shopping experience and a direct look at the latest offerings from Syrian industries.
Fostering Local Industry and Consumer Relief
Maher Marwan Idlibi, the Governor of Damascus, highlighted the festival’s importance in meeting community needs amidst current economic conditions. He emphasized its role in promoting and supporting national products within the local market.
Idlibi noted that participating companies are offering discounts of up to 30%, selling goods close to their cost price with a minimal profit margin. He also suggested the potential for similar events in the future, citing their significance in encouraging local production.
A Collaborative Effort for Economic Support
Officials from partner organizations reinforced the festival’s mission. Samer Bayrakdar, Assistant Minister of Awqaf, described the event as a form of solidarity between merchants and citizens, enabling families to secure their needs during Ramadan.
Mohammed Ayman Al-Mawlawi, President of the Damascus and Rural Damascus Chamber of Industry, pointed out that the broad participation from companies serves as a significant boost for the national product. He confirmed that monitoring committees are present at the festival to ensure all exhibitors adhere to the advertised discounted prices. The market is open daily from 12 PM to 12 AM.
