UAE’s AURAK Inaugurates AI Hub To Position Ras Al Khaimah In National Tech Race

3 Min Read

The American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) has officially launched its Advanced Technology and Artificial Intelligence Centre (ATAIC), a state-of-the-art hub designed to accelerate applied research and industry collaboration. Backed by the UAE’s Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) ICT Fund, the new centre aims to cement Ras Al Khaimah’s role in achieving the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031.

Bridging Academia and Industry

ATAIC has been established with a strong focus on co-creation, bringing together academia and global technology leaders. The launch event saw participation from industry giants including Dell, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Huawei, and IBM.

This collaboration provides students, faculty, and industry partners with access to high-performance computing clusters, AI workstations, robotics kits, and IoT devices. The centre’s model encourages the joint development of practical solutions in machine learning and smart systems, as demonstrated by early student projects showcased at the inauguration.

A Strategic Push for Ras Al Khaimah

The establishment of ATAIC is a significant move to diversify the UAE’s technology development footprint beyond the established hubs of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. By creating a dedicated AI and advanced technology centre with government and private sector support, AURAK is positioning Ras Al Khaimah as an emerging hub for digital innovation and data science.

This initiative strengthens the local talent pipeline within the northern emirate, enabling it to contribute more actively to the national AI strategy and fostering a more balanced technology ecosystem across the country.

Building an End-to-End AI Talent Pipeline

ATAIC’s launch follows AURAK’s introduction of a comprehensive Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence earlier in 2024. The four-year programme, covering machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing, was designed to produce market-ready graduates for high-demand AI roles.

With the addition of the research centre, AURAK is building a complete, end-to-end AI capability. This allows the university to move from being a consumer of innovation to a key contributor, equipping graduates not just for current jobs but to lead in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
