MENA-focused venture studio DeepMinds has launched DeepX, a regional DeepTech venture building summit in Algiers, designed to convert scientific research into commercially viable businesses. The initiative, which has the backing of multiple Algerian ministries, aims to create a structured pipeline from the lab to the market, addressing a long-standing gap in the region’s ability to commercialize academic innovation.

- Aims to commercialize regional academic research.
- Backed by multiple Algerian government ministries.
Bridging the Lab-to-Market Gap
While the Middle East and North Africa produces a growing volume of academic research, the region has historically struggled to translate these findings into high-value, technology-driven companies. DeepX was created to tackle this issue directly by building a coordinated ecosystem that connects scientists, AI experts, industry leaders, and venture builders.
The inaugural summit, held at the Cultural Center of the Great Mosque in Algiers, brought together experts from the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa to lay the groundwork for this new platform.
“DeepX reflects our commitment to transforming deep technology into tangible economic value through structured venture creation,” said Dr. Abdenour Haddou, Managing Partner and Chief AI Officer at DeepMinds. “It is about building ventures that are viable, scalable, and impactful for our economies and societies.”
A Structured Approach to Venture Building
DeepX is centered around five strategic clusters identified for their regional demand and potential for high-impact innovation: food security, healthcare, cybersecurity, logistics & smart cities, and fintech. Each cluster is designed to operate as a continuous innovation engine, identifying opportunities and driving venture creation aligned with industry needs.
A key outcome of the summit is the creation of a “Deep Tech Opportunities Map,” a strategic blueprint for identifying high-potential intersections between new technologies and market demands.
Amine Staali, Managing Partner and CEO of DeepMinds, added, “DeepX reflects our vision to position deep technology at the core of economic development. By connecting science, industry, and venture building, we are creating a platform that enables the emergence of impactful ventures and long-term technological capabilities for the region and beyond.”
Forging Strategic Industry Partnerships
As part of its execution roadmap, DeepMinds announced strategic partnerships with key Algerian industry players during the summit. Collaborations with SAIDAL, a leading pharmaceutical manufacturing group, and CAAT, a major national insurance company, are intended to support the development and deployment of new ventures within these priority sectors.
DeepX is positioned as a recurring annual event. The next edition has been announced for December 2026 in Djanet, located in southern Algeria, to further connect deep technology with the environment and strategic reflection.
