Algeria’s CERIST Launches Deeptech Hub to Turn National Research into Startups

4 Min Read

Algeria’s national research centre, CERIST, has launched the Deeptech Innovation Hub (DIH), a new acceleration platform in Algiers designed to convert advanced academic research into scalable commercial ventures. The initiative aims to leverage the country’s established IT leadership and modern AI infrastructure to support startups, connect them with industry and investors, and fast-track the commercialisation of technologies like artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.

Quick Facts

  • New hub to convert research into startups.
  • Focus on AI, cybersecurity, and deep tech.
  • Access to high-performance computing and AI infrastructure.

Bridging the Gap Between Lab and Market

The Deeptech Innovation Hub, headquartered at the Research Centre in Scientific and Technical Information (CERIST), will function as an acceleration arm bridging scientific discovery with market needs. It targets startups and established companies developing advanced technology solutions across various sectors.

To address the critical gap between research output and commercial readiness, the hub will offer structured acceleration programs. These programs are designed to help founders refine business models, validate use cases, and ensure their products meet tangible market demand. Furthermore, the DIH will connect startups with a network of corporations, public institutions, and investors to facilitate partnerships and real-world deployment opportunities.

Powering Ventures with High-Performance Infrastructure

Operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, CERIST has a long history of leading Algeria’s tech infrastructure, from introducing the internet to developing national IT systems. Today, this extends to providing cloud, high-performance computing (HPC), and AI capabilities.

Ventures supported by the DIH will gain direct access to this technical backbone. This includes high-performance computing resources, GPU-powered AI infrastructure, and advanced data systems, giving them the necessary tools to scale their innovations from prototype to commercially viable solutions. For enterprises, the hub acts as a gateway to innovation, matching them with relevant startups and research teams to accelerate their digital transformation.

A Coordinated National Push for Innovation

The DIH is a key component of the National Venture Studio Programme, a $600 million public-private initiative launched in 2025. This broader program, led by the government investment fund ASF (Algerian Startup Fund), CERIST, and the decentralised venture studio DeepMinds, aims to create over 1,000 startups across all 58 provinces.

This move signals a coordinated national strategy to industrialise innovation. Rather than funding isolated projects, Algeria is building a structured, nationwide venture-building model focused on deep technology and AI-driven economic growth, positioning itself to foster globally competitive companies.
