Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Silver Lake Partners are exploring a potential acquisition of Unity Software in a deal that could value the game-engine company at about $25 billion, according to a Reuters report cited in the announcement.
The consortium has held talks with Unity in recent weeks about taking the company private. Silver Lake already owns about 8% of Unity and invested as much as $400 million in the company in 2017. The investment firm also has a representative on Unity’s board.
Unity is reviewing its strategic options with an investment bank, but no agreement has been approved. The final financing structure, ownership stakes and terms have not been disclosed, and the talks may not result in a completed transaction.
The discussions follow Unity’s improved financial performance. The company reported $622.1 million in revenue for the third quarter of 2026, up 32% year-on-year, and posted its first quarterly GAAP profit since its 2020 IPO. Its AI-powered Vector advertising platform also supported growth.
Unity’s technology is used beyond gaming, including in automotive design, industrial applications, film production and 3D simulation. For PIF, the potential deal would extend its gaming investments after participating with Silver Lake and others in the $55 billion acquisition of Electronic Arts, which closed in August 2026.
