SPARQ, an AI-native game engine and creator platform based in Ras Al Khaimah, has opened an $8.5 million seed funding round, attracting early participation from Andreessen Horowitz’s (a16z) Scout Fund. The company is building a platform to simplify game development for millions of digital content creators.
Quick Facts
- Funding: $8.5 million seed round opened.
- Investor: Early participation from a16z Scout Fund.
- Mission: AI-native game engine for 250 million creators.
From Self-Funded to Seed Round
SPARQ’s move to raise external capital follows a two-year period of intensive product development, fueled by approximately $2.5 million of the founders’ own money. During this time, the company built a proprietary C++ engine with AAA-level rendering capabilities.
This initial phase also saw the assembly of a team of over 20 engineers and generated significant interest, with a waitlist growing to more than 6,000 creators before the seed round was initiated. The platform uses AI to automate complex tasks like coding, asset generation, networking, publishing, and monetization, giving creators direct control over gameplay and user experience.
Tapping into the 250 Million Strong Creator Economy
SPARQ’s leadership believes that AI is fundamentally altering the financial and technical dynamics of game development.
“Artificial intelligence is transforming the economics of game development by removing many of the technical barriers that have traditionally required large studios and development teams,” noted Christopher Pail, Founder and CEO of SPARQ.
The company aims to serve a massive untapped market. Christoffer Wilhelmsen, Co-founder and COO, stated that the goal is to “unlock game creation for an estimated 250 million creators worldwide who currently produce digital content but lack accessible tools to build games.”
Building a Creator Hub in Ras Al Khaimah
In a move to bolster the local tech ecosystem, SPARQ has partnered with Ras Al Khaimah’s Innovation City to launch the SPARQ Creators Centre. The hub is designed to be an AI-powered facility to attract global creators, developers, and engineers to the UAE.
Paul Dawalibi, CEO of Innovation City, commented that SPARQ is the kind of company the UAE is looking to support as it builds its reputation as a global center for AI, gaming, and creative technologies.
With beta access currently being distributed to its waitlist, SPARQ is preparing for a wider launch to bring its AI-powered development tools to the global creator economy.
