Saudi Arabia is advancing its Vision 2030 goals by strengthening its technology partnership with China, focusing on key areas like artificial intelligence, the digital economy, and space exploration. A high-level Saudi delegation, led by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology and Chairman of the Saudi Space Agency, Abdullah Alswaha, recently met with top government officials and tech executives in Beijing to expand collaboration.

Forging Alliances in AI and the Digital Economy
During the visit, Minister Alswaha met with Li Lecheng, China’s Minister of Industry and Information Technology, to map out a deeper partnership in AI, the digital economy, and other emerging technologies. Discussions centered on localizing advanced tech and launching joint initiatives in telecommunications and advanced manufacturing.
The Saudi delegation also engaged with Wang Xing, Founder and Chairman of Meituan, a major Chinese technology platform. These talks explored opportunities to collaborate on AI-driven digital services, smart logistics, and smart city applications to accelerate the adoption of new technologies across the Kingdom.
Expanding Frontiers in Space Technology
A significant part of the mission focused on the space sector. Alswaha held discussions with Zhou Jie, Chairman of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), to bolster cooperation in space technologies.
The conversation explored localizing key space technologies in Saudi Arabia, developing the Kingdom’s domestic satellite manufacturing capabilities, and facilitating knowledge transfer to build up the local talent pool and support the country’s growing space industry. This move aligns with Saudi Arabia’s strategy to become a significant player in the global space economy.
