Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be’ah) is expanding its carbon-management work with plans to generate carbon credits from emissions reductions across its waste-management operations, with landfill gas recovery at the center of the strategy.
The company’s Carbon Management Framework covers emissions measurement, project identification, credit registration and verification, issuance and trading, and integration into financial and accounting processes.
be’ah’s 2024 greenhouse-gas inventory recorded 1.285 million tonnes of combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Solid-waste disposal sites accounted for 91.9% of Scope 1 emissions, making landfill methane a key reduction opportunity.
The company has partnered with OQ Trading to identify carbon-credit projects and support their development, certification, verification and marketing. Two landfill gas recovery projects at the Al Multaqa and Barka landfills were registered under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard in 2024.
be’ah is also developing projects to convert recovered gas into electricity. Al Multaqa is expected to generate 460 kW, while Barka could generate 600 kW. The projects were around 55% complete by the end of 2025 and were scheduled for completion in July 2026.
